Spines / Fire Brute — AE Fire Farm Build Guide

Why Spines / Fire?

Spines brings exceptional AoE coverage — a toggle aura (Quills), a point-blank nuke (Spine Burst), and a wide cone (Throw Spines) — hitting every mob in a cluster simultaneously. Fiery Aura supplies reliable self-healing through Healing Flames and Consume, solid fire resistance, and the damage-boosting Fiery Embrace. The Brute's Fury bar stays near-maxed when you position inside mob clusters and let your toggles tick constantly.

The result is near-zero downtime, massive AoE coverage from three simultaneous damage sources, and enough self-healing to ignore most fire threats once you hit the defense cap. The quintessential bootstrap toon — it earns influence fast enough to fund every other character you'll want to make.

The One Rule: 45% Fire Defense

Fire farms use exclusively fire-damage enemy AIs. Cap fire/heat defense to 45% and you are soft-capped against everything on the map. Every power pool choice, every set selection, every bonus chase is in service of either hitting that cap or maximizing damage output once you have it.

Power Selections

Primary: Spines

Power Take? Notes
LungeYesFree at L1. Filler single-target opener, keeps Fury building between AoE cooldowns.
Spine Burst Yes ★ Core power. Primary PBAoE nuke. 6-slot this first.
Barb SwipeSkipLow damage, single-target. No place in a farm rotation.
Quills Yes ★ Core toggle aura. Constantly ticks lethal + toxic damage to everything in melee range. Keep it running at all times.
Build UpYesCritical damage spike. Pairs with Fiery Embrace for devastating burst windows.
ImpaleOptionalRanged single-target. Useful for pulling, low farm priority. Skip if tight on picks.
RipperYesWide-arc cone, massive lethal damage, knockdown. Excellent coverage alongside Spine Burst.
Throw Spines Yes ★ Core AoE. Your second-best nuke after Spine Burst. Cone range, hits large clusters. 6-slot this.
TauntYesEssential for pulling spawns to you. Also an ATO set mule for Brute set bonuses.

Secondary: Fiery Aura

Power Take? Notes
Fire Shield Yes ★ Core toggle. Primary resistance + fire defense. Slot Aegis 5-piece here.
Healing Flames Yes ★ Core heal. Mandatory. One of the best self-heals in the game. Slot Doctored Wounds + Numina proc.
Temperature ProtectionYesFire/Cold resistance passive. Take early, slot lightly.
Plasma ShieldYesEnergy/Negative resistance toggle. Continue stacking Aegis pieces here.
Consume Yes ★ Essential sustain. Use on cooldown, not just when empty. Keeps endurance healthy during long farm runs.
Blazing Aura Yes ★ Core damage toggle. Fire damage aura — the Fiery Aura counterpart to Quills. Two toggles running plus Quills equals constant AoE damage. 5–6 slot.
Fiery Embrace Yes ★ Damage multiplier. Adds bonus fire damage to all powers. Use on cooldown, always paired with Build Up for your burst window.
BurnYesAoE fire damage patch. Mobs scatter slightly but still take damage. Drop it at the start of each engagement.
Rise of the PhoenixSkipIf you're dying on a fire farm you have a build problem, not a rez problem.

Power Pools

Leaping — Combat Jumping is near-mandatory. Small stackable defense bonus, near-zero endurance cost, and it hosts a LotG 7.5% proc. Super Jump or Ninja Run for travel.

Fighting — Tough (resistance) and Weave (defense). Weave is the single biggest source of defense in the build. Slot it heavily with Luck of the Gambler pieces.

Leadership — Maneuvers for additional AoE defense. Stack it with Weave and Combat Jumping to approach the fire defense cap before set bonuses kick in.

Speed — Hasten. With global recharge you'll have Fiery Embrace and Build Up cycling constantly, dramatically increasing your clear speed over the course of a farm run.

Enhancement Slotting

The Golden Rule: The Luck of the Gambler 7.5% Global Recharge unique is the most important piece in the entire build. Slot one in every toggleable defense power you can — Weave, Combat Jumping, Maneuvers. Four copies transforms the build's feel.

Incarnate Recommendations

Alpha — Musculature Core Paragon Raw damage increase amplifies every AoE in your rotation. More damage equals faster clears equals more influence per hour. If struggling with endurance early, use Cardiac Core Paragon as a bridge while you finish your build.

Interface — Reactive Radial Flawless Interface Adds fire DoT procs to your attacks, stacking with Fiery Embrace's bonus fire damage. Exceptional in AoE — every tick hits multiple targets. Alternatively, Degenerative for -Max HP shred on harder content.

Destiny — Ageless Radial Epiphany Recharge bonus plus endurance discount. Keeps Hasten near-perma and smooths endurance with a burst self-use. Clarion is an option if mez is a concern.

Lore — Banished Pantheon Core Superior Strong melee damage pets. Robotic Drones Radial is popular for their debuff aura reducing enemy defenses. Most Lore pets work fine in a fire farm — pick what you can slot first.

Hybrid — Assault Core Embodiment Flat damage increase, always active. Pairs with Musculature to multiply clear speed. The farming standard, no contest.

Farm Rotation

The rotation is deliberately simple — that's a feature when you're running the same map sixty times.

  1. Toggles On — Quills, Blazing Aura, Fire Shield, Plasma Shield, Weave, Combat Jumping, Maneuvers. Every pull, every time.
  2. Pull Spawn — Charge in or use Taunt/Impale to cluster enemies. Position in the center of the group.
  3. Fiery Embrace — Pop it first. This is your damage multiplier window.
  4. Build Up — Immediately after Fiery Embrace for maximum damage spike.
  5. Burn — Drop the patch under the cluster.
  6. Spine Burst — PBAoE nuke into the center of the mob.
  7. Throw Spines — Cone across the group. Catches anything Spine Burst missed.
  8. Ripper — Wide arc mop-up. Knockdown keeps survivors from responding.
  9. Toggles Finish — Quills and Blazing Aura clean up stragglers while you move to the next spawn.
  10. Healing Flames — Use at ~50% HP, not just near death. Proactive healing keeps you moving.
  11. Consume — Use on cooldown. Don't wait until empty — keep your blue bar healthy throughout the run.

Budget Build Path

Build up gradually in this order rather than waiting until you can afford everything at once.

Phase 1 — Get Farming Slot any IO sets you can afford in your AoE powers. Even generic damage/recharge IOs will farm adequately at lower difficulty. Run +1/x4 while you earn influence. Don't wait for perfection to start playing.

Phase 2 — Defense First Chase fire defense to 45%. Prioritize LotG 7.5% procs in your defense toggles and Aegis 5-piece in Fire Shield. This unlocks high-efficiency farming at +4/x8.

Phase 3 — Recharge Collect your LotG 7.5% procs — four copies transforms the build's feel. Fiery Embrace and Build Up available near-constantly.

Phase 4 — Damage Now invest in Armageddon in Spine Burst and Ragnarok in Throw Spines. Expensive pieces, but the recharge bonuses compound with your existing LotGs and Hasten.

Phase 5 — Polish Steadfast, Gladiator's Armor, Numina, Miracle, Performance Shifter. These are force multipliers on survivability and endurance. Finish the build here.

Earn accolades before spending influence on IOs. The HP and endurance bonuses are completely free — there's no reason to skip them.
